[By Choice] a Poem

We cannot eliminate all human despair,
and I think we’ve no right to try;
elimination is to flagellate ourselves of despair
and if we must go,
let us go in a spirit of choice
and not the spirit of fear;

tragedy is not only a staged effect;
its life begins in our lives,
a tragic-comic sonnet,
dawn drawn to its very last breath
until its moment of death
